Headache and Hydration

Headache and Hydration

I was having an online conversation with a few women and someone asked a question on headaches and what the best “go-to” remedy would be, as she didn’t want to keep having to rely on Paracetemol.

A recommendation was to eat a heap more fruit.

This is the first time I’ve heard of such a thing.  To eat a heap of fruit to heal headaches.

So I questioned that.

“Didn’t you know that fruit contains up to 75% water?” was the reply.

Let me start by shedding a little light here.

Whilst she was coming from a place of more hydration, fruit is not H2O – oxygen & hydrogen = water.

The cause of headaches is more often than not, due to being dehydrated.  Most people aren’t drinking enough water!

We need to be drinking enough water to hydrate to a cellular level. If you’re thirsty – that’s the body’s cry out for water and is the last phase of dehydration.

No drink or food should replace your daily requirement of water.

That means fruit! Whilst fruit does contain water (and essential nutrients & anti-oxidants) you would have to eat a really large amount of fruit to equate to the amount of water you need to drink on a daily basis.

Plus, eating too much fruit can disrupt your blood sugars and glucose regulation.  Some fruits are not suitable for everyone so let’s just go back to basics and just drink the darn water ok?

So, if you’re suffering with headaches., check in and ask yourself how much water have I consumed today?   If I have consumed water, has it been enough to hydrate me to a cellular level where all the functions in my body are working optimally?

If you are well hydrated and still suffering from headaches, it could be due to a response to a food or stimulant you may have consumed.

Or your neck/spine might be out of alignment.

Generally speaking if you keep hydrated, symptoms will most likely disappear! 😊

Do you suffer from headaches?  Do you know how much water you really should be consuming, based on your individual makeup?
