How To Have Resolutions You Actually Achieve

Have you ever made a New Year’s Resolution, and suddenly it’s almost the end of the year, and you haven’t achieved any on your list?

An article posted by the New York Post says that a study conducted by the University of Scranton states that only 8% of people actually achieve their New Year’s Resolution, while around 80% fail.

There are a lot of factors why the majority of those who make these resolutions fall short in achieving them. One of the reasons why is because it was made in preparation for the new year.

The guest of the Rejuvenated Woman podcast and the co-founder of Rejuvenate Pilates, Kerryn Smith mentions that we create these resolutions when our emotions are high and more likely intoxicated to welcome the coming year.

When asked if they make new year’s resolutions both Kerryn and Cathy said that they don’t make one. However, both of them agreed on the importance of setting goals for the year and having the commitment to achieve them.

As Cathy mentioned, these resolutions are basically like a wish that you’re just putting out there but haven’t manifested. Being part of the health and fitness industry for 29 years, Cathy has given the perfect example about resolution fails.

Losing weight is a constant part of any resolution list and Cathy mentioned that people don’t commit to this until February. This month is the busiest worldwide for gyms, clubs, and studios but when March comes, these resolutions are flying out the door.

Cathy relates this unsuccessful commitment to not knowing the why. You have to understand your why no matter what your resolution is. Why do you want to achieve that? Why is it important to you?

She recommends getting a journal and writing down what you want to achieve this time next year. You need to manifest your goals by writing them down with the two most affirming words in the dictionary: I AM.

Write your goals as if you have already received them. Examples of which are:

    • I am 20 kilos lighter
    • I am alcohol-free
    • I am running a thriving business

If you visualize where you’re at in 12 months, you should be able to recognize what needs to be done to get there. It starts with having the dream or a goal in mind then having the will to do it but ultimately, you need to follow through with action.

You can write down as many new year’s resolutions as you want but if you don’t develop the commitment to do it, then it’s complete nonsense. Look within yourself and know why your goals for the year matter. Manifest that you have achieved your goals so commit yourself to the hard work it brings.
